Indoor Classroom Games
20 active games that work perfectly in the classroom.
1. Four Corners
Label corners 1-4. Students move to a corner based on a question. Teacher picks a corner to eliminate. Last students standing win!
2. Heads Down, Thumbs Up
3-4 students stand at front, heads down on desk. Teacher taps one. That student tries to sneak back to their seat undetected.
3. Telephone
Students sit in a line. First student whispers a message. Last student says it out loud. Compare with original!
4. Pictionary
One student draws a word on the board. Classmates guess what it is. Use vocabulary from current lessons.
5. Charades
Students act out vocabulary words, book titles, or historical events while classmates guess.
6. Category Countdown
Pick a category (animals, foods, etc.). Students take turns naming items. Last one to think of an item wins!
7. Board Rush
Two teams race to solve problems on the board. First correct answer wins a point for the team.
8. Concentration Clap
Go around the circle. Each student says a word in a category. Clap before your turn. Get rhythm going fast!
9. Story Chain
First student starts a story with one sentence. Each student adds the next sentence. Keep it going for 5 minutes!
10. Stand Up If...
Read statements. Students stand if it applies to them. "Stand up if you have a pet." Great for community building.
11. Silent Line Up
Students must line up by birthday (month/day) WITHOUT talking. Add challenge: line up by height without talking.
12. Cross the River
Place "stepping stones" (paper) across the floor. Teams must cross without touching the floor. Remove stones each round.
13. Word Relay
Teams race to the board to write a word that starts with the last letter of the previous word. Apple -> Elephant -> Tiger...
14. Math Baseball
Students "bat" by answering math problems. Correct = single, double, triple, or home run based on difficulty.
15. Vocabulary Bingo
Create bingo cards with vocabulary words. Teacher defines words. Students mark them. First to get 5 in a row wins!
16. Trivia Hot Seat
One student sits in the "hot seat" facing away. Classmates give clues to vocabulary words. Student guesses.
17. Map Quest
Give teams a simple map and clues. They must find the hidden treasure by following directions.
18. Speed Quiz
Teacher rapid-fires review questions. Students write answers on whiteboards. Most correct answers win!
19. Sticky Note Pass
Teams pass a sticky note from forehead to forehead using only body contact. No hands allowed!
20. Cup Stacking Challenge
Teams have 60 seconds to build the tallest cup tower. Then they must unstack it carefully.
